Back to the same bank, but this time it was much harder to find the clams. We had already dug most of the bank, but we didn’t just clear-cut dig it, we worked up high near all of the various pools that the tide left when it went out, and we worked in the middle and down low at random spots. So, this time it was tougher to find where we hadn’t worked but had clams. Sometimes when I’m digging and I’m getting clams then all of a sudden I’m out of the clams I wonder if someone else had already dug there, then I’ll start finding them again and I just keep going. I’ve always said ‘clamming is about hope and faith’…you hope your rake hits a clam with every stroke and if it doesn’t, which is about 90% of the time, you have to have faith that the next one will.
